About This Trip
Birding Ecotours' full-day guided pelagic trips depart Simon's Town at 7:00 am, pass the dramatic cliffs of Cape Point, and travel roughly 30 kilometres offshore into the cold, nutrient-rich Benguela waters where fishing trawlers attract enormous seabird aggregations. Trips are guided by expert local ornithologists and reliably produce at least four albatross species — Shy, Black-browed, Indian Yellow-nosed, and Atlantic Yellow-nosed virtually guaranteed — along with White-chinned Petrel, Cape Petrel, Great-winged Petrel, multiple shearwater species, and pattering flocks of storm-petrels. Groups are kept small (6–12 participants) and the two-day scheduling window maximises the chance of calm enough seas to operate.
