About This Trip
Naturalist Science & Tourism offers a private pelagic birdwatching charter from Horta, exploring Atlantic seabird feeding waters around Faial and Pico. The approximately three-hour outing uses a rigid-inflatable boat, with an experienced skipper and ornithologist, and bait is used to bring less frequently seen species closer to the boat. Binoculars are provided, and guests can take part in a short marine data-collection session run by the team's marine biologists. Cory's Shearwater is the signature bird of these waters; Common and Roseate Terns, Great and Sooty Shearwaters, Bulwer's Petrel, Barolo and Manx Shearwaters, gulls and skuas are also possible. Storm-petrels are less predictable, and sightings depend on season and bird activity. Dates and pricing are arranged on inquiry.
