About This Trip

San Diego offshore pelagic trips, coordinated by Buena Vista Audubon and San Diego Field Ornithologists, depart Seaforth Landing in Mission Bay aboard the 80-foot Legacy into the California Current system. These 10–11-hour trips, scheduled in spring and fall, target warm-water incursions that push tropical seabirds north in late summer and fall. Trips regularly produce Least and Black Storm-petrels, Black-vented Shearwaters, Elegant Terns, and vagrant tropical seabirds when warm El Niño conditions prevail, with the San Diego area offering excellent access to both nearshore California Current and warmer offshore eddies.
