About This Trip

The Brookline Bird Club has run "extreme pelagics" since 2005, operating overnight trips aboard the Helen H — a 100-foot vessel — that venture approximately 100 miles offshore from Hyannis to the edge of the continental shelf at Hydrographer, Atlantis, or Veatch's Canyons. These deep-water expeditions reach the zone where warm Gulf Stream eddies meet cold Labrador Current water, producing some of the most diverse seabird assemblages on the East Coast, including Cory's, Great, Sooty, Manx, and occasionally Little Shearwaters, Wilson's and Leach's Storm-petrels, South Polar Skua, Sabine's Gull, and phalaropes. The overnight format allows birding in both directions and maximizes time in the most productive offshore waters.
