Oregon Pelagic Tours operates out of Newport, targeting the highly productive Oregon shelf waters and the Heceta Bank region, one of the richest upwelling zones on the West Coast. Trips run during the prime summer and fall season when shearwaters by the millions can be encountered, along with storm-petrels, phalaropes, jaegers, Sabine's Gulls, and occasional rarities like Hawaiian Petrel. The cool California Current keeps these waters extraordinarily productive for seabirds throughout the season.
