About This Trip

This dedicated 2-night cruise circumnavigates Torishima (Bird Island), the remote volcanic island 580 km south of Tokyo that serves as the principal nesting ground for the Short-tailed Albatross — one of the world's most endangered and historically persecuted seabirds, now recovering to over 5,000 individuals. Passengers observe breeding adults and juveniles on the colony slopes from the vessel, accompanied by expert commentary from ornithologist Dr. Hiroshi Hasegawa. Black-footed Albatrosses, Bonin Petrels, and Streaked Shearwaters are also regularly encountered on the open Pacific crossing.
