About This Trip

Field Guides' Spitsbergen cruise boards the m/v Ortelius in Longyearbyen and spends 13 days circumnavigating the Svalbard archipelago, exploring coastlines, deep-cut fjords, and the polar ice edge. The magnificent bird cliffs of northwest Spitsbergen host breeding colonies of tens of thousands of Black-legged Kittiwakes, Brünnich's Guillemots, and Black Guillemots, with Atlantic Puffins and Northern Fulmars abundant throughout. Skuas — both Long-tailed and Pomarine — patrol the tundra, while rare Ivory Gull, Ross's Gull, and Sabine's Gull may be encountered in the pack ice. Groups are limited to nine participants for an intimate expert-guided experience.
