Monterey Bay Pelagic

Shearwater Journeys has operated pelagic birding trips out of Monterey Bay since 1976, making it one of the most established pelagic operations on the West Coast. Monterey Canyon — one of the deepest submarine canyons in North America — funnels cold, nutrient-rich upwelling that draws enormous concentrations of seabirds year-round. Trips regularly encounter albatrosses, multiple shearwater species, phalaropes, storm-petrels, and alcids depending on the season.
